OSA and Wiley have recently partnered together to produce co-branded books that will cover the broad field of optics

OSA and Wiley have begun the collaboration with the recently published, Quantitative Imaging Tools for Lung Cancer Drug Assessment, edited by OSA members James Mulshine and Thomas Baer (OSA’s 2009 president).

This collection of articles highlights the most recent advanced techniques of drug-based methods of detecting lung cancer including ‘state of the art’ methods for using high resolution CT imaging to evaluate how lung tumors respond to specific drug therapies. The book grew out of a 2006 workshop co-sponsored by OSA and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It consists of the proceedings of the workshop, representing manuscripts from many leading lung cancer clinical and medical research as well as imaging and image analysis groups. This book is particularly important addition to oncology research as lung cancer requires immediate intervention to promote patient survival. Imaging of tumors can quickly provide critical information which can be used to determine if a particular drug therapy is effective. However, current CT image analysis tools are still very crude, preventing accurate quantitative assessment of changes in a tumor’s characteristics after drug therapy. The new imaging techniques will hopefully prove to be an improvement over current methods and lead to increased early detection and higher survival rates.

The next book in the “series,” due to be published next year is OSA member David Brady’s Optical Imaging and Spectroscopy. This book deals with computational optical sensing which is important both as an interface to the physical world and as a component of information systems.

Potential authors are encouraged to contact OSA if they are interested in publishing under the new imprint. The benefits of publishing with OSA/Wiley are many, not least of which is being associated and promoted by two premier publishers. Wiley plans aggressive promotion of the books and there will be a special OSA website promoting the publications. Also the books will be clearly identified within Wiley's catalogs and special mailings as joint publications.

Optics Express Selected to be Indexed in MEDLINE

Optics Express joins Applied Optics, JOSA A, and Optics Letters as the fourth OSA journal to be indexed in the US National Library of Medicine’s MEDLINE bibliographic database.

Thank you for Reviewers

The OSA Publications Department would like to thank the countless reviewers that have assisted in the peer review process for our journals. Without your help OSA would not be one of the premiere venues for the dissemination of the latest research in Optics and Photonics.

Optics InfoBase: Conference Papers

OSA’s highly-regarded conference papers are now included accessible in Optics InfoBase. More than 50,000 papers have been added to the InfoBase with new content for current and past conference added on a regular basis.

Early Posting

OSA publishes accepted articles for JOSA A, JOSA B, Optics Letters, and Applied Optics to an Early Posting page as soon as they have been cleared for production. This page is free to the general public. Early Posting articles are presented in their manuscript format as supplied by the author, and they are removed from the page once the final version has been published in an issue.

The articles are grouped according to month of acceptance and the following information is displayed: article title, listing of authors, dates manuscript received and accepted, link to full-text PDF, and author-selected OCIS codes. If you have any questions please review the information in the Early Posting FAQ page, or contact OSA Staff.
