Education Resources

Educational outreach is one the most important and significant ways OSA supports local communities and inspires tomorrow’s young scientists. A variety of materials and programs have been developed to address the needs of students from elementary school through university studies.

We invite you to explore these education resource pages, and welcome your comments and suggestions. Contact OSA’s educational programming staff at: opticseducation@osa.org.

Discoveries and Breakthroughs Inside Science Educational Broadcast and Online Resource

OSA has partnered with the American Institute of Physics (AIP) to develop television news segments on the latest advances in optics and photonics. This program, called Discoveries and Breakthroughs Inside Science (DBIS), is designed to help raise awareness of the role basic science plays in breakthrough technological advances that impact everyday life. Geared towards members of the general public, these segments run on local TV stations nationwide.

Ideal resources for members working with pre-college students, these segments are available free of charge.

All segments, including those that focus on disciplines other than optics and photonics, can be accessed online and DVDs of individual segments may be requested by emailing mediarelations@osa.org.

DBIS is supported in part through a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).
