OSA Election

The OSA Board of Directors is pleased to announce an outstanding slate of candidates for the 2009 OSA election. The OSA election opens on June 29, 2009, and the results will be announced at the OSA Annual Business Meeting on October 13, 2009, in San Jose, California, USA.  For information on the current Board of Directors, please see http://www.osa.org/aboutosa/leadership/board/default.aspx.  To read biographies and statements from all candidates, in PDF format or email voting@osa.org to request a version in Word.

Candidates for 2010 Vice President (1 will be elected)

The successful candidate will serve as OSA Vice President in 2010, OSA President Elect in 2011 and OSA President in 2012, followed by a fourth year of serve as Immediate Past President.  The elected candidate will have a number of responsibilities and duties during the four year term as an OSA Officer. 

The OSA President is OSA’s chief elected spokesperson and works closely with the Executive Director, members of the Board of Directors and other volunteer leaders to help define the goals and strategic direction for the Society. In addition to chairing the OSA Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings, the President serves on the Finance Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and Key Results Oversight Committee, and may also serve as an ex officio member on other committees, councils and ad hoc working groups. The President communicates with the OSA membership via columns in OPN and the OSA Member Newsletter, and will preside or give presentations at various events throughout his/her term, including award ceremonies, receptions, plenary sessions, media events, etc. The President assists in building relationships with Student Chapters, Local Sections, sister societies and members of the global optics and photonics community.

Candidates for Director at Large 2010-2012 (3 will be elected)

OSA Directors at Large represent the interests of the OSA membership and participate in the governance of the Society through service on the Board of Directors. Directors at Large attend three in-person meetings of the Board of Directors each year and also serve on one or more OSA committees and councils, depending on interests and/or expertise. Directors at Large attend various Board-related events at OSA conferences and meetings and may also be invited to represent OSA at conferences hosted by sister societies.  Directors at Large are encouraged to visit OSA Student Chapters and Local Sections. The term of office is three years.
